Russian nuclear power units confirmed, big for India’s clean energy quest, manufacturing ambitions

On expected lines, the India Russia summit level talks have confirmed that six more high pewered nuclear power units will be instituted in India. The Russian State Atomic Energy Agency Rosatom’s CEO Alexei Likhachev said his company are in discussion with Delhi to construct the six high-power nuclear units as a part of a new project, as well as developing low-power nuclear power plants in India.

In addition, in April 2024, India was provided with information on solutions in the field of floating nuclear power plants.

This implies that Russia has once again emerged key to clean energy transition of the world’s most populous country. This also shows that even as Western block nations continue to watch the Russia India defence deals, the two countries have moved on for much wide ranging cooperation.

It is not to be missed that India currently is looking to become a major manufacturing hub and part of the global level resilient supply chain system. India is also keen on providing industrialization and consequently employment on a scale that is proportional to its population growth.

It is now clear that apart from oil supply and keeping inflation down in South Asian giant economy, the ties with Russia have embarked on yet another meaningful cooperation which would help India transition to clean energy and also rapidly industralize for the benefit of Asia and wider world.
