It is indeed bizarre that Ukrainian men are being forced to fight on the front against Russia and that Western block nations are continuing supply of lethal weapons to keep fueling the war. The ramifications of this obsession to hurt Russia and destabilize it or bring about a regime change there is quite evident in domestic politics of multiple European countries.
The incumbent suffered historic defeat in the British election, and French society is all too divided between the left and right as became evident from the just concluded national election. Germany is also facing a definite surge of the political far right.
It is in this context that Prime Minister Modi’s message needs to be read when he says that ‘no solution can be found on battleground’ or that peace cannot be achieved amid falling bombs and bullet fire.
Prime Minister Modi has been clear that he wants peace to prevail between Russia and Ukraine so that the anxieties of global south (interms of food and fuel supplies) are better addressed. Western nations project President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as representative of Ukraine but isnt this injustice with the many Ukrainian families whose men are being forced to enlist and fight on the front in this mindless war.
If the United States doesnt allow adversarial forces near its border (which is a declared policy since 1962 Cuban missile crisis), shouldn’t Russian apprehensions regarding NATO weapons on Ukrainian soil be addressed respectfully.
